Snowdon Winter Ascent

Met office weather report shows a first dusting of snow in Snowdonia.

Along the A5 Llyn Ogwen.

East slopes of Y Garn.

Snowdon massif viewed from the A4086.

Crib Goch peak from the PYG track.

Llyn Llydaw and it's snow covered peaks.

PYG track, the easy part.

A lot of fresh snow had fallen.

First shot of Snowdon with it's winter coat.

Glaslyn.

Beyond the zigzags, snow was deep and the gradient severe. Due to the number of people on the slopes the snow was beginning to turn icy and crampons were recommended on the steps. I has crampons in my bag but managed without.

Top of the PYG track near the finger stone.

Back down the weather was turning and began to snow later.

One final shot of Snowdon on the way back.

Final thoughts. What an amazing day out in the snow with views to match.

I wore a Rab powerstretch as a base layer and only my sherpa as a shell. No need for mid layer as that combination was plenty warm for today's conditions. On my legs I had on CCC synthetic leggings with TOG waterproof trousers. Hands were merino wool liner with TOG waterproof gloves.

Hoylake 10K 2015

Back again to my local home race, the annual Hoylake10k race for charity.

The weather this time round was near perfect. Most importantly there was little wind in either direction.

Here are some photos and a video taken by Frances.

My race summary on endomondo. A new 10k PB too of 46:21!

A final quick video near the finish area.

Run to the Summits Y Garn & Elidir Fawr.

Parking at Idwal Cottage carpark just off the A5,  I set off on my run or speed hike at 8:30am. From the base of the mountain it was mainly speed hiking!

From the car park to Y Garn summit I had managed to complete this segment in 44:04 minutes! 5th fastest time in 2015 and 13th out of 34 fastest time of all participants.

Some pictures from the day!
